| Program notes: History of Canandaigua Rotary |
|
Bob Palumbo reviewed some facts and figures about Rotary International. It's HUGE -- equal to the largest corporation in the world. Over 1.2 million members, 32,000 clubs, in more than 200 countries and territories. Headquarters are in Evanston IL and there are 7 international offices. The CEO is the General Secretary who oversees 650 staff worldwide. The Rotary Foundation started in 1926 with a $26.50 donation. Since then more than $1 billion has been contributed. Many club members travel internationally for Rotary, and most are very heavily involved in their local community. Rotary is more than a lunch club and it's more than selling tickets. Therre are many hands-on events. In 1921, every member of the Canandaigua club helped to move the entire contents of their fellow Rotarian's grocery store from his old location to a new store. Talk about hands on! The Club's first outing was in 1947 at the 4H Camp in Bristol Hills. Bob had earlier distributed a 10 question quiz to each table. The answers were read and altho some complaints about cheating (looking up the answers in the club directory) were voiced, it was agreed to award Mary Green's table a lottery ticket for each person for scoring highest. Janet Tenreiro's table was awarded a single lottery ticket for the highest score sans look-up.

| 50/50 results: Mary Green tried the Joker Draw for $583 but failed. Tim Reed won $25. |
