- Lt. Mike Colacino spoke to the group about tickets being sold by the Canandaigua Police Benevolent Organization for a heavy duty golf cart. Camp Onseyawa is in need of such a cart so it was suggested by Bob Palumbo and Dick McGavern to have Rotary members purchase tickets for Camp Onseyawa. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. The drawing is not until September 19 so there's still time to purchase tickets if you'd like to help out. See Bob or Dick.

Last week's program presented by Ed Mulheron, the Canandaigua Academy Head Lacrosse Coach & Business Teacher, was a memorable one. A life long resident of Canandaigua, Ed was an assistant lacrosse coach in Canandaigua for 21 years and has been head coach for 4. His overall record is 76 wins, 12 losses. His teams have won 3 Finger Lakes titles, 2 Section 5 titles and 1 NYS title. He was All Greater Rochester Coach of the Year in 2008 & 2009, and 3 time Finger Lakes Coach of the Year.
Ed shared there are approximatey 290 kids in grades K-12 who participate in the lacrosse program which is active 8 to 9 months of the year. There are 30 coaches, 25 of whom are volunteers.
Coach Mulheron spoke extensively on 'A Season In The Balance' - a once in a lifetime opportunity Canandaigua Academy had to partner with New Balance Company to document the lacrosse team's season. A video team from NYC rented a house in Bristol from Feb to May. Every aspect of the season was documented, resulting in 13 webisodes. Ed shared what was special about the experience was how the kids grew. They realized all of their actions would be viewed by others and therefore began to think about all of their behaviors. The team went on to win the State Championship which simply put, was a great ending to a remarkable season. The Lacrosse Team won over $50,000 worth of clothing and equipment - enough for every player on the team to be completely outfitted. Cindy Wade and Tricia Carey had sons play for Coach Mulheron and both had nothing but praise for the Coach and the Canandaigua Lacrosse Program. This was truly an inspirational presentation.
