Exchange Students:

Pia reported on the illness at school, her illness at home last weekend and her initial Basketball meeting.  Pres. Jack lamented her choosing B-Ball over bowling!

Announcements:

• President Jack passed a card for Aldo Fioravanti who slipped and fell.  Al should be able to head south in two weeks.

•A reminder to get your reservations in to Tom Sheavly for the Paul Harris Dinner.  We need to have a large turnout for this fun event.

•Final call for advertising in the RPO Concert program.

•Dick Murphy stood and asked for volunteers to ring the bell.  This is our large commitment to the Salvation Army and our only chance to retain the bell over Kiwanis.

•Kirk Locus is looking for people to help with our fall ARC Night to be held November 7th at the Y.

•Tricia Reddick Carey made a plug for the Dinner Dance at the Granger Homestead for the evening of November 7th.  Food, wine and Skycoasters will kick off the Christkindl season at the Granger.

•Mark Vahey reported that 13 Canandaigua Rotarians attended the Camp Onseyawa Dinner in Bloomfield.  Food and fellowship were great.

Joe DelForte and his committee served over 30 children with pumpkin carving and fun on Saturday.  Leftover pumpkins were donated to the Salvation Army.

 Fines:

Keith Harter paid for a trip to Hilton Head for his son's wedding and a week of golf and vacation.  The check is in the mail.

•Father in Law Tom Sheavly paid for a meet and greet with author Pat Conroy while in South Carolina.

•Floyd Rayburn played the Great White Hunter while he chased elk in New Mexico.  The elk did not cooperate by stopping for a clean shot.

•Jeff Anthony and Marge travelled to Dallas for a visit with their son and a Cowboys game.  Jeff missed the game but reported on the Dallas Cheerleaders.

•Jodi Kaufman continues to cement her title as "most Travelled."  She paid for a week in California, diapering her drooling grandchildren followed by a European trip of Milan, Florence, Provence and Paris.  Her whining about the exchange rate was met with groans.

•Dave Reid returned to his first vocation as janitor for his wife's cottage in Canada.  He isn't much better at fishing as it turns out.

•Moving Day was met with Chris Leverett moving his office to Linden Oaks with regret and Andy and Chloe Platou will soon reside at Quail Summitt.

•Bob Metzger reported that his granddaughter in Carolina has no need for a coat.

Program:

Our speaker was Scott Osborn, the President of Fox Run Vineyards.  Scott is also the President of the NYS Wine Association and the recipient of numerous awards.  Scott purchased Fox Run in 1993 and has overseen the growth from  1,000 cases per to year to over 20,000 cases.  Over 80,000 visitors stopped at Fox Run in 2006 alone.

•The wine industry in NYS is a huge business.  There are 239 wineries in the state yet over 90% of the wine produced in the U.S. comes from California alone.  Riesling is the premier wine produced in the Finger Lakes.  Our cool weather is special and unmatched in many states.

•There are problems in the industry as growers often sell their grapes below cost or even leave the grapes to rot on the ground.  Vineyards often offer views of the Finger Lakes and the land is desirable to developers.  Wine sales are flat.

•The Wine Association is once again pushing for a change in law that would allow wine sales in grocery and convenience stores.  Outlets could increase from 2,700 to over 21,000 stores state wide.  Wine sales could double meaning more fees to the state, more sales taxes and excise taxes to the county and state, more jobs both in the industry and the suppliers of tanks, bottles and cartons.

50/50 and Joker Draw:

Bob Brozic showed up, had a chance for $805 and drew the King of Spades.  President Jack reported that there were "X" number of cards in the deck.  Lotta help to the bettors?

Doug Lowden won (AGAIN) the consolation of $27.00
