Announcements:

Ken Poole reported that we still needed housing for incoming exchange students.

The 84th Eastern Cities Dinner is scheduled for September 13th.  Those interested in attending should get their money to Joe Delforte by the early bird deadline of August 12.

Donna Miller reminded all members to sign up to work at the August 15th Pier Fest.  Those not signing up on their own will find themselves assigned a shift.  Donna announced that the Red Jacket Rotary has agreed to be a Pierfest sponsor.  Next time you see a Red Jacket Rotarian, say "thanks"!  Rick Hawks informed the club that we still need sponsors in order to cover the costs of this event.  He encouraged all Rotarians to consider sponsorships.  See Rick if you are willing to sponsor or know someone who is.

Joe Kardesh announced that workers are needed both for the Camp Onseyawa carnival,  August 23, and for the break down of the camp, August 29.  Members are invited to have lunch at the camp Monday, 8/17, Wednesday, 8/19, and Friday, 8/21, during the first week of camp, and Tuesday, 8/25, and Thursday, 8/27, during the second week.  Onseyawa  is sponsored by our club.  These lunches provide a lovely opportunity to get to know the camp and the campers.  Let Joe know if you are interested in attending.  Dishwashers, counselors, lifeguards and maintenance are still needed.  See Joe if you know anyone interested in working.  George Herren reminded club members that application forms for new members are available from club secretary, Janet Tenreiro, and Membership Committee members.  Jean Logan was recognized for her 10 years as Chair of the Membership Committee.

Fines and Happy Dollars:
Jim Mrocek for his grandson's graduation.  Linda Collins outbid John Spare for the Pit Pass.
Program notes:
Becky Loy shared a progress report about the "Safe Childbirth in Tibet" project that is sponsored by Rotary Clubs in Brighton and Canandaigua, Eugene, Oregon and the Beijing, China.  Goals of the program are to preserve life and reduce mortality.  To get to Rima Village, Becky and her companions had to travel 18 hours by truck from the nearest airport over rough narrow roads.  Matching grants from Rotary International, a variety of foundations, and private donors  (the Pharmacy Shoppe provided much needed medicine and supplies) have brought medical equipment, birthing kits, a school and a well, an ambulance and a clinic to a community made up primarily of nomadic people.  In 2008 , no maternal or infant deaths were reported.
50/50 results:

George Herren won $18 in the 50/50 and donated it to the club.  Marty Muehe pulled the 7 of diamonds from the deck.
